Jaguars of Pantanal June 2012

You go to Pantanal to try to see the jaguar
bigger than a leopard, it lives only in South America
Here he was eating one of the numerous capybaras
the largest rodent on earth: 50 kg living close to the river
and close to the numerous caimans
Giant otters ( loutres) are endemic to Pantanal
up to 180cm and 35kg...
they are impressive predator of fish
and very swift
They are very social
Along the river...
is a paradise for birds
The Rufus Tiger heron
is a highlight
so is the blue heron
The Roseate Spoonbill ( Spatule)
flying at sunset
I fell in love with the Ringed Kingfisher( Martin pecheur)
flying to ...
to catch a fish bigger than him
The Black Collar Hawk( faucon)
diving to catch a fish
ready to get it....
and catching it!
one cannot miss the Hiacint Macaw
The smallest of owls: 10 cm, the Pygmy owl
Next to an Iguana
The "royal" toucan
always high in the trees
The largest Stork(cigogne): 250cm of wingspan
is a great eater of fish
..as the Cocoi Heron

Gauchos are part of the landscape

they take care of the cattle
to cross the river
Good Bye!
