Hidden Charms of Burma

Only in Burma girls and women use tanaka as make up and sun protection
as here to sell fruits at the market
in the countryside
The Shwedagon pagoda in Rangoon is huge...
with monks ....
and people all barefoot
It's worth spending one full day!
outside of Rangoon, beautiful rice paddies...
with a lot of farmers...
some with a buffalo pulling the plough
Pagan is an old capital with hundreds of pagodas which rivals with Angkor
Mandalay is another former capital with the U Bein's bridge
and a royal palace covered with gold
Young girl use tanaka and flower to look more beautiful
and to sell painting with her brother
this young monk paused for me
while others travel by truck
yes, I was charmed by this young girl!
this San woman in traditional costume was very shy
I hiked in the hills to a Akka tribe village...
where they live in primitive conditions
old women blacken their teeth
mothers practice breast feeding
but young girls have a more modern look
Afraid of fire, this woman uses a coconut shell as an ashtray
The market is where you have to go to buy or sell
At lake Inle they have a floating market
and a regular one
fishing is a big activity...
but rice is the main staple and these young girls carry 20Kg. of rice straw
